Fall is here! We’re back for the season!

The Zenith team is coming back online for the season here and we have some fall newsletters for you to help get psyched! This week, we’ve got signups for our in-person knowledge series. Read on and come join us! 

Next week, we’ll have our courses and trips for the season ready to sign up for. If you want to be sure to tick off an avi refresher or get into the ski mountaineering course, make sure to keep an eye out for that on Monday the 14th.

What’s going on:

The furnace kicked on for the first time this past week so that means it’s time for our first Zenith snow newsletters of the season! If you get in the habit of paying attention to mountain weather now, you’ll be well set up to get after it this winter. 

If you’ve had your eyes on the high mountains you’ve already seen the first snow fell at the peaks on September 1st. Another pulse of rain and even lower freezing levels put a few cm of snow as low as the new Spearhead Huts MacBeth site! So far, it’s been an unsettled start to the fall. We haven’t had crazy high pressure or warm temps which is probably going a long way to keeping the upper parts of our glaciers slightly more snowy than previous years. It may not make a huge difference but it’s good to know those glaciers are a touch healthier! In the meantime, conditions in the valley are all-time. Cooler, drier days makes the rock excellent and the alpine running has been excellent. If we must tolerate time without snow, this is a good time to enjoy.

Knowledge series:

We're excited to partner another year with SkiUphill for our monthly snowpack discussions. To help build the excitement for ski season, we're planning a three-part fall knowledge series. All proceeds from this series will help contribute funds to our mountain weather station installations. Read full descriptions and sign up for each night separately by clicking through the links below. These will be short presentations followed by conversation style so you’ll have a chance to bring your questions and get into it with an expert!

What we've been up to:

Zenith guides have had a busy summer working all over the Chief, the Tantalus, and around BC, teaching mountain rescue, even managing safety for a project in Greenland! Evan snuck away to Switzerland with his family and made a pit stop in Chamonix on the way home. Eric ripped into the Waddington Range to climb Combatant but otherwise has been making the most of his time pulling hard on the Chief.

We’re all looking forward to some incoming cold weather though! Schedules are filling up though so if you’ve got projects in mind for the season, reach out asap. Whether it’s a spring basecamp in the Coast Range or finally ticking off the Spearhead Traverse, we want to help. Even if we don’t make a set plan, getting it on the radar and figuring out what it might take to prepare is a good step right now. Send us a note and let us know what you’ve got in mind!
